friendly reminders.

one of the funny
blogs i follow is imboycrazyDOTCOM
by alexi wasser. she's blunt and crazy but i love it
cause its nice to have someone so open about
so many crude things girls aren't supposed to talk about.

anyway, i love her BLIND LEADING THE BLIND
entries and here are a few things, that even i need to remember at times.

don’t hurt someone on purpose just because they hurt you by accident.

today is the youngest you’re ever gonna be!
so stop freaking out thinking you’re so old!

try to find the balance
between accepting someone as they are, being kind,
and not compromising yourself.

you can’t take advice from people
you don’t respect/or whose
lifestyle choices you don’t agree with.
but isn’t funny how ok
these people are about doling out advice?

do ONE thing that makes you nervous, scared, or brave EVERY DAY!

staples. yeah, we got that.

when the average person thinks of staples,
they probably think of this.

or this.

when i think of staples,
i think of shet that i wear all the damn time.
(also for a real long time too)
i'm wearing two staples today that
i cannot live without.
for one- are my classic hightop converse sneakers.
i will NEVER be a vans girl. i don't know why. converse are
so much more original and comfortable to me. they are the epidime of
casual cool and will always be something that is in arms reach in my closet.
today i'm wearing my super old black hightops that are nearing
their experation date. if i saved up all the converse
that i've owned in my life, i'm sure to have at least 30 pairs if not more.
here's to an oldschool SHOESDAYTUESDAY!

another staple is my
12street cynthia vincent navajo sweater.
it's one of those warm, thicker sweaters that i can only wear for
a quarter of the year but i will always turn to for those couple of months.
i got on sale at barneys like 3 years ago for like 70% off and grabbed it
immediately. it's a crazy ass blend of wool cashmere lycra angora..
whatever. i love it. having ONE great quality sweater
is a definite must in my closet.

mehhh. both pictures don't do much justice
(it doesn't help that i take these pictures at work and my dad
or jane takes these shots of me LOL)
for my beloved sweater coat, but whatever.
i'm also wearing a lot of other "staples" but
plain white tees and tights
are for another ranting post.

how to be a motherloving LADY.

the lovely fashionistaDOTCOM wrote a great post of
lady like etiquette for the beastly bitches out there that needs
to be tamed. refresh your day by reading these reminders... i've highlighted
some comments and thoughts through out the list.
enjoy!

34 Things a Lady Never Does...

  1. A lady doesn't wear clothes that are too revealing: Always remember, 1st class!
  2. A lady doesn't have loud cell phone conversations in public: If you must take a call while you are out, make it short and keep your voice just loud enough for your caller to hear.
  3. A lady never adjusts....anything: If you feel the need to adjust clothing, or what is under them, take a moment to step into the ladies room (after excusing yourself first, of course).
  4. A lady never applies full make-up in public: Re-applying lipstick or lipgloss is OK. Touch-ups are alright, but we should always be doing our best to arrive poised and fabulous. Do you see anyone applying make-up on the red carpet? Not a chance! AGREED! I HATE GIRLS WHO CHECK THEIR  MAKE UP IN PUBLIC! SOOO RUDE AND DISGUSTING! WALK YOUR ASS TO THE BATHROOM!!
  5. Should never pay the bill while out on a dinner date, if she was asked out unless it was agreed upon to,"go dutch" (seperate bills) prior to the date.
  6. Never eats off of her date's plate! This is something that is reserved for much, much later into the relationship!
  7. At a dinner party or other social gathering, a lady never gives attention to only one person when there are other people present. (It's rude to ignor others and make them feel un-welcome) A lady, especially when she is the host, will do her best to involve everyone present and make them feel comfortable. This, if nothing else is a sign of your diplomacy.
  8. A lady never forgets to send a "Thank You" note! It seems that so few people do this these days. Whenever you recieve a gift, even from a relative, you should take a moment and send a Thank You note. To make it easy on yourself, keep a supply of Thank You cards and stamps on hand so that you may send your notes out quickly.  i hate how people forget how cards are SO important!!
  9. A lady never forgets to bring the host a gift when invited to a party. A box of chocolates is an appropriate gift when invited for dinner, to be deposited at the entrance with a gift card. Flowers can be sent either just before the dinner or, even better, the following day
  10. A lady never asks for a tour of a friend's home or other host unless it's a housewarming. Otherwise, a lady should wait for a tour to be offered if the host would like to offer one.
  11. A lady never puts her elbows on the table. Dining at home or dining out, a lady always keeps one hand in her lap and uses her free hand to use her fork or spoon to eat. Of course, it is acceptable to use your other hand when your meal requires the use of a knife, but after you have finished with the knife, it should be laid accross the side of your plate until it is needed again and your free hand should return to your lap.
  12. A lady never boasts or brags about herself or her possesions. You never want to make others feel uncomfortable. However, it is polite to humbly accept a compliment when offered.
  13. A lady never belittles, or puts down others. You never know who you are, in fact, entertaining. A lady should always be polite and respectful in her communications.
  14. A lady never ASKS for gifts. Etiquette would suggest that if a gift were appropriate, those attending your function would understand that they were. In fact, in the past, it wouldn't even be considered proper to have a gift registry. However in more recent times, this has become a common practice.
  15. When dining, a lady never leaves a messy area around her plate. Crumbs should be swept up, droplets of water on the table from your glass should be wiped clean and when finished with your meal, anything that you are not using (a wrapper from your straw etc) should be placed on your plate with a napkin over top. There may be servers and busboys present, but that doesn't mean that your area shouldn't look neat and clean, even after you've finished your meal.
  16. A lady never waits until the last minute to RSVP for a party. Many invitations will come with a "reply by date". It's always in the best taste to reply by that date (if not earlier). Your host needs to make arrangements based on the number of guests she will be having, so, please be kind and reply accordingly.
  17. A lady never goes out in public wearing any of the following: pajama pants or (pajama anything), bedroom slippers, rollers, hair pins or hair scarves. This is just not appropriate. Even if you are just running to the convenience store, you should be clean, neat and presentable. You never know who you will meet, where you will meet them and the impact that they will have upon your life. Remember, you only get one chance to make a first impression!  .........do james perse sweats count as pajamas? LOL
  18. A lady never invites herself to someone's party or event. For example, Carmen tells you that Beverly, a mutual friend, is having a party on Friday and that she will be attending. However, for whatever reason, you did not recieve an invitation. It is not appropriate to call Beverly and say "I heard that you are having a party on Friday, is it OK if I come?" Nor is it appropriate for you to ask Carmen to ask Beverly if it is alright for you to come. As much as it may bother you that you have not recieved an invitation, it's just not in good taste to try and invite yourself. You never know, there may be a perfectly good reason.
  19. A lady never asks someone how much they paid for an item...honestly...never. It's perfectly OK to say "I love those shoes! Who carries them?" and then you can go and seek them out on your own, but you never ask someone how much they paid.
  20. As a follow-up to last week's "Never do": A lady never tells someone how much she paid for something after she has recieved a compliment. For example "I love your blouse. That color looks really great on you" You should not reply with "Thanks! I only paid $15.00 on sale at my favorite store!" Instead, graciously accept the compliment.  fuck. i always do this. fml.
  21. A lady never leaves the house in wrinkled clothing. That's a big no-no. You should always look pressed and polished whenever possible. Furthermore, always make sure that you either fold, hang up or iron your garments after you wash them so that your items will require little work when you need to get ready to go out.
  22. A lady never "Over does" her make-up for the occassion. For instance, wearing big, false lashes, with an evening smokey eye and a bright lip... not the best choice for the office. A lady knows the difference between day and evening looks and wears them accordingly.
  23. A lady never shows up unannounced. EVER Honestly, it's just plain rude. You never know what that person may be doing. You should always call first and ask if it's OK, otherwise some may feel that you don't have very good manners or that maybe you're just snooping about. Neither is really very good. So remember, always call first.
  24. A lady never wears her clothing at the wrong time. For instance, you wouldn't pull out your (for argument's sake) mink stole in 60 degree weather simply becuase you thought it was fabulous. Nor would you wear your favorite Summer dress in the middle of Fall only becuase you thought you didn't wear it often enough during the season. There is a time and place for everything. A time for suede and a time for trench coats, a time for wraps and a time for sandals, but  a lady makes sure that she knows the difference.
  25. A lady never uses foul language. Do we really need to say anymore than that? Even if you are upset, there is always a better way to communicate than to destroy your otherwise ladylike appearance with a foul mouth.  fuck. nuff said.
  26. A lady never waits until the last minute to send out party invitations. If you're having a get together, your invitations should be sent out at least two weeks in advance, but we wouldn't send them out more than a month in advance. You want your guests to have advance notice, but you don't want them to forget about you.
  27. A lady never drenches herself in perfume. Although by all means, we do encourage you to wear perfume (if you can), it should always be a lovely and lightly lingering fragrance. When you walk by, others should not feel the need to clear their throats. If you aren't sure how much is enough, we suggest applying just a little to areas like your wrist, just a tap at the neck and even behind your knees.
  28. A lady never goes into debt just to give a gift. Yes, tis the season to be giving, BUT you don't put your bank account into jeopardy simply to keep up appearances. A lady gives a gift that is appropriate and appropriately priced, but always with meaning and thoughtfulness. Those are the gifts that will be most appreciated.
  29. A lady never gossips! There's catching up with a friend (sharing information about what's going on with you). And then there's gossiping (sharing the information about everyone else's life). If someone has entrusted you with personal information, maintain that trust and friendship. Most importantly remember this: If someone is willing to tell you the details of someone else's life, they're probably telling the details of YOUR life to others as well!  gossiping is my life. what else am i supposed to do with my free time?
  30. A lady never gets drunk or hungover! It may be the season of "merriment" but nothing is worth risking your integrity and reputation. By all means, attend those holiday parties, but please, celebrate responsibly like the lovely Fashionista Ladies that you are. We don't want to see any pics of you on Facebook showing up in poor taste.  ok this is ridiculous. who doesn't want to get drunk and show it on FB?? that was like, my new years resolution! to do it MORE OFTEN!
  31. A lady never makes promises she can't keep...even to herself. This is fitting for New Year's resoultions. Your word and your ability to keep it (or lack there of) says something about your character and your integrity. If someone asks you to help them out or even if you offer to do something, don't say it or agree to it unless you actually plan to come through. Even with your resolutions. Make logical assesments of what you think you can do and agree to that. If you can do more great! If you take on more than you can handle, you're only setting yourself up for regret and the feeling of unaccomplishment later on. Remember, you're only as good as your word!  fuck ... this too.
  32. A lady never tells someone how they should dress, unless of course they have asked you for your advice. All too often we find that women (who feel they are the Chief of the Fashion Police) openly try to tell others what is wrong with thier ensemble. That's just rude. If someone asks you for your advice, you can (feel flattered that they admire your style) and offer constructive tips. Be a style icon, not a style diva.  this is true. no advice unless asked for. no comments unless asked for.
  33. A lady is never ungracious or acts "entitled". Basically, if someone gives you a gift, you should always seem appreciative and offer them a "Thank You" (even if you don't like what they gave you) You knew it had to be a little harder than that right? You shouldn't tell them that you don't like it, or ask them to take it back and give you something else. Know the saying "It's the thought that counts"? Apply that here. You CAN re-gift the item, but you  have to make sure it's to someone they would never have known. Being a Fashionista isn't about being a brat. It's the total package.   SO true!! do YOUR part. thats all that matters
  34. A lady never leaves the house with spots on her clothes. We understand this can sometimes be hard becuase - what if you got that spot while you were out at lunch? In this case, you should always have some emergency wipes on hand. Even Clorox wipes will work wonders. (Did you know there's no bleach in them? They're safe for all colors) This will keep you looking presentable and make washing that garment that much easier! Presentation, presentatioin, presentation.

the weekend.

this weekend really felt like a whirlwind.
it came and left so fast.
i feel like... (although there is much truth to this)
i didn't accomplish much/do anything these past two days.

saturday morning,
i went on one of my favorite hikes/workouts
at runyon canyon in hollywood. yeah...
i'm still sore from the hike but it was beautiful and refreshing
to go up there after such a long time.

i also went sans parker & ryan so it was
kind of nice to be left alone to swim in my own thoughts
for a whole morning..

happy monday.

charlotte ronson beach hair update

as you know, i bought this Charlotte Ronson
hairspray that is supposed to make you look
like a mermaid that just came out of the ocean.

today was the first real day that i used it
in the way that i needed it.
(basically when i have no time to blow dry fully,
spray it on my damp hair and run to work)
my waves are definitely .. smoother but i don't know
if i like it or not. maybe its the sailor striped
comme de garcon longsleeve that makes me feel more tomboy
and not so pretty mermaid pretty.

if you have fine/thin hair, this might work better
for you. it DID make my POOF factor a lot less haha.
oh and it smells nice too.

worth the 20 bucks...and kind of too lazy to return it.

i really thought i'd magically look like this when i used
the hair spray...

yeah, in that bikini and ALL.

HOT WINTER.

so it was 80 degrees today in LA.
so hawt.
i got to wear my sunglasses
while driving ... refreshing to bust em out.
they're karen walker deep freeze sunglasses
that i LOVE. i need new black ones..
i think i might get the house of harlow ones i've been
eyeing lately.. :)

and here is my outfit for today...

flannel: found from fleamarket
v neck: wildfox
red skinny jeans: current elliot
shoes: kimchi blue from UO

this outfit incredibly affordable.
i think i got the flannel at the trading post for like 5 bucks,
the shirt is from the wildfox sample sale, ages ago and
the jeans are from the current elliot sample sale
a month ago. the shoes i found at UO for
sale for like 30 dollars too! so amazing!
i think my sunglasses are the most expensive thing i wore today
balling on a budget
forealz.

p/s sometimes (usually)
my grammar sucks/i don't really
pay attention to my sentences..
as they make sense in my head but not on my blog.
i can be random and rant forever..

apologies in advance.

dayTREE.

i got fancy and did a
before and after picture of my smoothie yesterday.

again.. this was my dinner on wednesday night.
but i was getting some hunger pains so i also
had 2 boiled eggs, no yolk. a couple
handfuls of popcorn and apples with cottage cheese.
i can tell my body is happy to be getting
rid of all the heavy holiday fats
and working out is surprisingly not
that bad...
i have a lot of energy and feel light during the work out.
maybe this cleanse was the best for me so i can
start working out regularly in february.

yum.
okay enough of my food/detox talk.

last week, rye and i went to coles to have a few drinks
and hangout. i can tell he really is my best friend
bc we can literally go to a local bar, have a few
and then walk back home having
the best time. i mean, it could be anywhere and
we really enjoy each other's company. sometimes, we don't really
talk much but it actually makes me feel closer to him.
coles is a block from the loft, so we walk there with parker or
grab a drink. they make amazing drinks (all the bartenders
are mixologists and are so talented) so we grabbed two old fashioned
and talked all night. i wore these shoes i got at santee once with joeanne.
SO ghetto. i think i got them for less than 20 bucks.
they were cute on, and look really cute in the pictures. let me tell you,
as someone who loves shoes.. these are shit.
they are way to light for such tall heels and you can just FEEL the
cheapness. i wore them for shits and giggles but.. gah. i have mixed feelings about
shoes that are THIS poorly made and are so cheap.
i'm wearing my hole-y gap sweater and j brand jeggings with them..
and baby parker is modeling as well.
lol

an old fashioned please.

my parents suddenly asked us to meet us at urth cafe

detox. no seriously, for reals this time.

smoothie time.
my dinner consists of this smoothie.
it contains a banana, frozen peaches, frozen mangos,
ice, a handful of spinach and a pinch of lemon juice
and a little bit of water.
i want to add the pineapple tonight.
forgot to pick some up at the groceries.

it was so good! i'm serious when i say that
too. hahah. you can't even taste the
spinach and its really filling for a meal.
i'll be having this for 5 days for dinner
and consuming water and other fruits/veggies
for breakfast and lunch. it's almost vegan
but i decided to include some cottage
cheese for my apples
in the diet/cleanse :)

a few things i want to get done by the end of jan...

start working out regularly again (also eat healthy..ER)
finish YL projects i'm currently piled in.
get ready for my birthday cruise!!!
organize my crazy ass life.

i feel like.. everything around me
changing so fast and moving so fast. why do i feel so slow?
i hate these moments when i feel like i'm just waiting
for my life to get started...

this is a picture of joeanne and me last year around november
right before some flea market hunting. i saw her
tonight at home, (ryan and i had dinner with my parents)
and it really bothered me that 1- she told me that
she didn't want to follow or read my blog/ told me
i look crazy in my blog and then after i told her that
transferring to TC is not a good idea in your senior year,
she decided to tell me i'm her sister
and i should support her in what she wants.

there are so many things wrong with what she thinks
and says. of course i'd support her in all that she does and wants to do
(although, its clear she doesn't for me- example: my blog)
but i really think she's an idiot for thinking
she's going to all of a sudden get accepted into a
better college if she does one year of high school
in TC rather than finishing in Arcadia.

can i bet someone out there that my little sister will
be going to PCC in a year? even if she DOES transfer to TC?
so dumb. you can't support a decision if the decision
is one that has the wrong info and heart.

by no means do i want her to go to PCC
(not that its a terrible thing anyways) but i am being
realistic of the situation. nonetheless, her tone tonight put a bad
taste in my mouth and its disappointing to see the phases
of pre-adulthood she's going through and how she's handling them.

goodnight.

LMNOPEEEEEE.

so ... i obvs like jewelry.
...a lot. TEHEH
classic, trendy... whatever!
typically has to be real/plated/
so i don't break out in rash or turn green..
i think most of my friends know me for my
delicate jewelry/stacking fetish..
:)

so i love this site CATBIRDNYC
for the unique jewelry they have. i absolutely
love the alphabet collection of rings they have!
i would get a S or R.. obviously for Sung or Ryan.
and i really want a mid ring right now. they're
so chic and simple. mid rings are rings
that sit at the top or middle of your fingers
as they fit on the top of your knuckle.
LOVE! yet to find some cute simple ones in real life...

sits right on top. .see??
so cute!

such a cute site.. i would definitely buy everything
and anything from this site!

chakeh (착해)

착해

it's about to get REAL korean right now.
this word: "chah-keh" is a commonly used word to
describe a lot of different things. you can
use it for.. "responsible, good hearted, innocent,
wholesome, naive..." the list can go on, but
most girls try to be 착해 especially when it
comes to parents, parents in law and work.
if you google it in translation, it says
kind.. well mannered.. whatever

nonetheless, its typically a good compliment
if an elderly/grown up calls you this.
on the first of the new year, it's tradition
to go to your parents house and give them
warm "in sahs" (greetings) and do traditional "sehbeh"
sehbeh is where you get money as good
luck for the new year from your elders. i guess it's
parallel to chinese new year but its not as
intense. them chinese get cray cray during
the chinese new year!

anyway, ryan and i started the year off right
with a morning church session and went directly
to his parents house, and then to mine
shortly after. i wore an outfit that i think
perfect describes chakeh+fashion forward.

grey tank- ACTIVE (gift! woot)
cable knit sweater- GAP
double layered silk midi skirt-WILT
shoes- GLAZE from a'gaci (gift! woot)

i also wore my new earrings rye got me for christmas.
he's such a dear. we always walk to the newmart/cooper building
when they're sample sales.. and he remembered
this show room that carried beautiful jewelry
like native gem and sheila fajil.
he got me 2 semi precious stoned rings and these pair
of earrings. LOVE! i will post the rings
soon but here are the earrings.

they really aren't something
i would typically choose but they're unique and
classic. my little ears are happy when they're on.

:)
happy hump day

TUESDAYSHOESDAY!

something i've been trying to do as a fun
blog tradition, is wear some fun shoes every tuesday.
today, i'm wearing my jeffery campbell platform wedges
in embossed snake skin. they're surprisingly
very comfortable for being so high.. i got
them 2 years ago with hanni and carly
at the LF sale on robertson. i think they were like 60 bucks.
SCORE!
obviously, the litas were a huge hit the last few years
with JC but i tend to like foxys rather than the litas.
i don't know what the wedges i'm wearing today
are called..but i obviously like them too.

my outfit is pretty casual today..
my dad took this picture
he thinks my blog is funny.. seeing that no one
reads it. heh.

white t- james perse
cargo jacket- siwy denim
jeggings- jbrand
shoes- jeffery campbell

last night, i went to dinner with hanni.
so much fun. so happy for her and carly.
it's nice to catch up with her- lots of serious talks
and lots of hilarious talks. her take on fashion is great
and i love her style! she never fails to look
adorable. oddly enough, i tell her a lot of things
i'm more comfortable telling her than i am lamb ..whos my best friend.
maybe because i don't second guess her giving me some
hipster judgmental comment
(ha! - don't be offended lamb)
anyway, she took me to this amazeballs
place in abbot kinney.. must go back
immediately!! so yumymy!!

such a great way to start a week..

case of arthritis i my right arm/hand.. sometimes my left but
mainly in my right. after painting
this weekend, it got really bad. the worst in a while.
anyway, we'll see if i get better.

on a positive note, i bought new
beach hair spray from charlotte ronson from sephora
last night. i've heard good reviews so im giving it a go this week.
i put it in my hair today but it doesn't count cuz i
already had some curls in it.. so it looks good regardless. heh
so far, a plus is that it smells good.

sweet leather pants.. but i can't. i saw some helmut lang ones
on shopbop but of course i can't pay 900 bux for those puppies
i'm on the search to find some cheapo cute ones for less than
100 bones

detox week.

so i pretty much failed when it came
to detoxing this week. had a HUGE salad for
dinner last night and a slice of pizza at village pizza
in Larchmont. We took the designers and interns
out for dinner.

fun fun, but a major fail for eating healthy. tehhe
we had yogurt after for dessert at TWIRL
in Larchmont. so gooood
:)
